Holy Communion
Lutherans believe that in Holy Communion we receive the actual presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom we are promised forgiveness and eternal life. All Christians are invited to receive Holy Communion.
Children in fifth grade participate in classes to prepare them to celebrate their First Communion with their St. John's family. Fifth-graders and their parents serve as Element Bearers at Communion services.
Did you know that Holy Communion is a sacrament? A sacrament is an act of grace made effective by God's promise and a believer's trust using some concrete element of everyday life?like the bread and wine used in Holy Communion. Lutherans also celebrate the sacrament of Baptism.
Special arrangements can be made for adults or children younger than fifth grade to receive communion instruction. Contact us.
