Home Ministries Outreach to the community

The congregation is involved throughout the community in small and large ways. Some of the more popular examples include:

Rowan Helping MinistriesRowan Helping Ministries - Volunteers are needed in many areas of ministry for this county-wide agency which meets the needs of various citizens by putting God's love in action. St John's has committed to provide dinner and assist with laundry and clean-up on the second Wednesday night of each month. In addition, we provide breakfast the following morning. Other service opportunities include donations of food (collected the first Sunday of each month by St. John's youth), money, or clothing. The Eagles Nest apartments were built by members of St John's as transitional housing.

Meals on Wheels - St John's volunteers deliver hot meals to the homebound the first and second Wednesdays of each month. This important ministry doesn't take much time but volunteers are always needed!

Hospice Care - Please consider being a friend to a terminally ill patient. Training sessions are scheduled throughout the year.

CROP Walk - This 10-mile walk is traditionally held in October of each year. Walkers seek sponsors who pledge an amount per mile which raises money for local agencies as well as the international relief and development efforts of Church World Service. St John's Senior High Youth League is a participant and supporter. Everyone can be involved by walking, running, or making a pledge.

Habitat for HumanityHabitat for Humanity - St John's members often have the opportunity to build homes for the homeless through Habitat for Humanity. You may use skills of painting, roofing, carpentry, clean-up, even cooking!

Barnabas Connection - Our Barnabas program reaches out to at-risk youth in the Salisbury school system by connecting them to community artists and other adult mentors from St John's. The weekly program (Thursdays from 3:30-5:30) shares the gospel through the words, art, and actions of the leaders. Students try their hand at some advanced artwork, including pottery, stained glass, and mosaics.

Upward Basketball - Volunteers needed to act as referees or coaches.  Referees would volunteer 2 hours every other Saturday for 8 weeks.  Coaches would volunteer for 4 preseason practices, then 2 hours a week for 8 weeks plus a one hour awards presentation.  Please consider taking part in this rewarding community outreach program.   For more information call David Carr at 704-279-0285.
