Welcome to Youth Ministry at St John's!

We offer outstanding programs for middle and high school students that build life-long friendships, wrestle with key questions of faith/life, reach out in love to our neighbor, and invite teens into a grace-filled relationship with Jesus Christ.

 

 

For Middle School Students

Confirmation is offered for 7th and 8th grade students on the first and third Sundays of each month. The purpose is three-fold:


   1. to prepare early teens to live in the world as disciples
   2. provide the tools for students to claim Jesus as Lord and Savior
   3. guide students along a path of faith formation.

Confirmation students meet on the second and fourth Sundays of each month (September through May, 5:00-7:00) for dinner, high energy worship led by Pastor Rhodes and our Youth Praise Band, and for an hour of creative faith sharing. Over the course of two years the students focus on the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, Lord’s Prayer, and the sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism. A series of weekend beach retreats and a week-long camp at Lutheridge round out the program.

Middle School League. Youth Group time for middle school students alternates Sundays with Confirmation. 6th, 7th and 8th graders meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month for high energy games, group building, and servant projects. League begins with dinner at 5:00 and concludes at 7:00.

Barnabas Connection. Our Barnabas program reaches out to at-risk youth in the Salisbury school system by connecting them to community artists and other adult mentors from St John's. The weekly program (Thursdays from 3:30-5:30) shares the gospel through the words, art, and actions of the leaders. Students try their hand at some advanced artwork, including pottery, stained glass, and mosaics.

For High School Students

Senior High League. At the core of our Senior High program is League, which meets every Sunday evening from 5:00-7:00 during the school year. We begin with dinner and transition into high energy worship with the Youth Praise Band. Great food, games, friends, and time connecting with God’s Word. What more could you ask for! Other events include a major Christmas outreach project with needy children in the community, ski trips, white water rafting adventures, and other events and retreats throughout the year ... including ...


alt The Senior High Mission Trip. A highlight of our summer youth ministry program is the Senior High Mission Trip. Each summer our youth take a transformational journey to a part of God's creation they've never experienced. In the past we've ventured to Mexico, New Orleans, St Croix and Guatemala.




Youth Praise BandYouth Praise Band. Our youth are talented! Many enjoy rockin' out with our Praise Band -- leading worship on Sunday evenings and traveling to other events throughout the year. If you'd like to share your God given talents in this way, please contact the church office.
