Choirs of St John's Sing to the Lord a new song! Isaiah 42:10 St. John’s has a rich history of music in worship that began in 1747 and continues 263 years later with vitality and enthusiasm in 2010! It is our prayer that as we bring the sacrifice of praise each week that the Triune God will be honored, worshipped and glorified, and that our people will be uplifted and enriched to go and serve! We are so blessed with a community who love to hear, and to sing their faith - and this message of faith and praise resounds through the ministry of St. John’s several choirs and ensembles. We invite you to see what we offer for those who desire to share their gifts and talents in the ministry of music – and after you see, come sing or play with us! As we sing and make music in our hearts to the Lord,
-Robert J. Durocher, Director of Music Ministries, AIM -Rosemary C. Kinard, Associate Parish Music The CHANCEL CHOIR rehearses each Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Choir Room. Music from all periods of sacred literature, psalm, hymn and liturgical treatments are learned and shared with our 11:00 a.m. service. Some of the highlights of the singing year include the presentation of one or two sacred works a year, joint community Festival Services, and our Service of Lessons and Carols held each 4th Sunday in Advent. Please contact Rob Durocher: rob@st.johns-salisbury.org The CANTIO SACRA rehearses throughout the year as scheduled. The Cantio Sacra, which means Sacred Song in Latin, is a smaller ensemble of mixed voices singing the sacred music of the early Reformation/Renaissance period scored for four, five and six voices. Rehearsal dates and times are published in the church’s EAGLES VIEW. Please contact Rob Durocher: rob@st.johns-salisbury.org
The CENTER CELEBRATION MUSICIANS rehearse each Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the Center of St. John’s. The Center Celebration Singers and Instrumentalists lead our Sunday 9:00 a.m. Center Celebration Service in contemporary worship and praise songs, using the music of Hillsong, Gateway Church, Michael W. Smith, Chris Tomlin, and many others. The Center Musicians enjoy two retreat weekends each year for fellowship and for learning new music. Rehearsals are ongoing – and you are invited to join us! Please contact Rob Durocher: rob@stjohns-salisbury.org The ST. JOHN’S MEN’S CHORUS was formed in 1993 as a part of the fellowship ministry at St. John’s. It quickly grew into a community group, composed of men from the Salisbury-Rowan area who enjoy singing all styles of music – from classic sacred choral literature to spirituals to patriotic selection to barbershop arrangements. Membership in the Men’s Chorus includes men from many area churches, and members range in ages and backgrounds. The major tie that binds them together is their love of music and the satisfaction they receive when they share their musical offerings with the community. The group rehearses on Sunday afternoons at 5:00 in the St. John’s Choir Room in the fall and spring, and performs for many events, including St. John’s worship services such as Boy Scout Sunday and the annual Service of Lessons and Carols, concerts at local and out-of-town churches, civic events, community fund-raisers, civic clubs, and annual concerts in May and December. The group has had the privilege of giving several concerts to benefit the Crisis Council’s Battered Women’s Shelter, the Organ Fund at St. John’s, and Rowan Helping Ministries. If you would like to join The Men’s Chorus, or if you know of someone who might be interested, please contact Ralph Hair, President (704-638-0683), Rosemary Kinard, Director (704-637-7584), or Rob Durocher, Director of Music Ministries (704-636-3431). For more information, please contact Rosemary Kinard at 704-637-7584 or e-mail her at rosemarykinard@earthlink.net The ST. JOHN’S CHAPEL CHOIR began in 2007 with a goal of providing worship music for the 8:30 St. John’s Chapel Services. This ensemble sings for the early service on the first Sunday of each month (with the exception of July and August). This ensemble is very informal, and some members sit with their families for worship and join the group when they sing their anthem. An invitation is extended to anyone who is interested in singing on any FIRST SUNDAY to come to the altar area in the front of the chapel at 7:50 a.m. to go over the music for that Sunday. Contact Rosemary Kinard: rosemarykinard@earthlink.net The LINK HAND CHIMERS are the 4th and 5th grade youth of our Weekday Church School, and meet each Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the Bell Room. The Hand Chimers learn to read simple music and recognize note values using 3 octaves of Suzuki Hand Chimes. Hand Chimers ring as scheduled for worship throughout the year and resume rehearsing on Wednesday, September 16, 2009. Please contact Rob Durocher: rob@st.johns-salisbury.org |
