Scouts at St. John's
Boy Scouts of America provides an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. Boy Scouts have played an important part of the youth ministry of St. John's since the first troop was organized in 1922, just six years after Boy Scouts of America was chartered by Congress.
Boy Scout Troop 443 has served Rowan County longer than any other Boy Scout Troop. The Troop meets on Monday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. under the leadership of Henry Trexler, Jr., Scoutmaster. Boy Scouts is open to all boys between the ages of 11-17. In 2005 Troop 443 celerates its 80th Anniversary.
Cub Scout Pack 443 is North Carolina's oldest Cub Scout Pack. The Pack has served the youth of Rowan County since the 1930's. Under the leadership of Dave Roof, Cubmaster, the Cub Scout Troop meets on Monday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. in St. John's Fellowship Hall. Cub Scouts is open to boys in first through fifth grades. When Cub Scouts have earned their Arrow of Light, or reached the age of 11, they may join Boy Scouts of America.
Girl Scouts, Daisies, and Brownies - Girl Scouts was founded at St. John's in the early 1940's. Girls from age five through high school meet most Mondays at 4:00 p.m. in the Education Building "Center" for personal growth and work toward bettering their life and the lives of others.
